WEB Water's High School Scholarship Fund

The SIEH, WESTBY, ZEMLICKA, MONTGOMERY, HOHN SCHOLARSHIP is designed to encourage and recognize high school students in the WEB Water area who have demonstrated leadership skills, public involvement, community service, and academics, and who have worked to improve the rural community in which they live.

Awards & Deadlines

Three $1,000 scholarships ($3,000 total) will be awarded to graduating seniors who reside within the WEB Water service area and are enrolled or plan to enroll in a full-time course of study at an accredited institution of higher learning, including a vocational/technical school, two-year or four-year college, or university in the fall of the year the scholarship is given.

Completed applications must be postmarked by April 1st or received at the WEB Water Office no later than 4:30 P.M. April 1st. The WEB Water mailing address is: WEB Water Development Association, Inc., PO Box 51, Aberdeen, SD 57402-0051

The recipients of the three scholarships will be selected by a panel appointed by the WEB Water Board. 

The recipients will be notified by mail from WEB Water. A news release and photograph will be published in the WEB Water newsletter.

The $1,000 checks will be mailed to each winner. The checks will be made payable to the winner and their higher education institution of choice.

In addition to the information included in filling out the scholarship application, the quality and effort of the applicant's submission requirements will also carry substantial weight. Academics is important and athletic achievement or extra curricular activities are important, but we are also interested in what you’ve done beyond that. We want to help young people who have shown leadership skills, an interest in their community, and a willingness to help others. Tell us your story. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Submission Requirements

Complete and sign the application form (attach additional sheets if necessary). Don’t forget to sign & date the form and have your parent or guardian also sign & date the form.

Enclose the following to apply:

  • Completed scholarship application
  • An Essay answering the following question: "What is the economic importance of safe drinking water?"
  • A short outline listing the following four items: (1) your high school activities and accomplishments, (2) community service (public and civic involvement),  (3) your leadership skills, (4) your career goals, objectives and dreams.
  • Your most recent academic transcript or report card whether it be for your last year of high school or the previous year.
  • A copy of your ACT and/or SAT scores if you have them.
  • Total of two letters of reference from the following: teacher or counselor and an adult in the community who knows you and has worked with you on community activities.
  • Proof of WEB Water membership:
    • If you are a student of a WEB Water member who receives water service at a rural residence, rural farm, pasture tap or cabin, your family receives a monthly water bill. You need to provide us with your CONSUMER NUMBER (found on the WEB Water bill in the pink box).
    • If you are a student of a WEB Water customer who receives water from a Town or Bulk User that gets it’s water supply from WEB Water, you need to provide us the customer name where you reside.

Additional Details

  • Winners will be asked to provide a recent photo (color or black /white).
  • Students of WEB Water employees or students of the WEB Water Board of Directors are not eligible for this scholarship program.
  • All scholarship entries are confidential and will only be viewed by authorized WEB Water staff and the Scholarship Panel.
